Top Hat Cheddar and our cheesemakers earned a first place in the US Championship Cheese contest held in Green Bay. The contest had 2,555 entries from 35 states, competing across 116 categories of cheese and dairy products.
Not only did Top Hat earn a first place in the natural rind cheddar category, but went on to be recognized in the top 20 finalists for best in the US! We are honored and proud to share this winning cheese and all the other unique Door Artisan varieties.
Zivile (pronounced Jiv-Lay), our Fontina style cheese was also a winner. Zivile took a 3rd place ribbon in the Semi-Soft cheese category.
Door Artisan Cheese is a proud winner at the 2018 World Championship of Cheese contest. Cheesemaker Darrel Demeter took home the Gold for his Top Hat Cheddar in the Natural Rinded Cheddar category. Cheesemaker Jim Demeter took home the Bronze for his Crema Pressato in the fresh Asiago category.
A team of 56 internationally renowned judges were on hand in Madison, WI for the competition. Judges had to sniff, taste and inspect 3,402 entries across 121 classes of dairy products, with entries from 26 nations.
